About Compiss

A simpler way to find a toilet.

Compiss is a worldwide public toilet finder built by Punk Labs. Use the web map to explore an area, or use the mobile app for the compass, offline data, community ratings, photos and live reports.

Compiss is free, with no ads and no subscriptions. We want finding an essential facility to be quick, calm and available to everyone.

Data sources & attribution

Compiss combines open public-toilet data with approved additions from the Compiss community. We retain source information with each place and display it in the web finder.

United Kingdom toilet data

Contains data from the Toilet Map © 2025, licensed under CC BY 4.0.

Compiss filters the source records, selects and renames fields, normalises facilities and opening information, and reformats the data for use in the app and web finder. These changes were made by Compiss; Toilet Map does not endorse them.

Toilet data outside the UK

© OpenStreetMap contributors. OpenStreetMap data is available under the Open Database Licence.

Compiss selects public toilet records, excludes facilities tagged as private, normalises relevant fields and reformats the result for the app and web finder. To request a free copy of the current OpenStreetMap-derived Compiss toilet database, including the transformation details needed by the ODbL, email hello@compiss.app.

Web map and place search

The web finder is rendered with MapLibre GL JS. Its map style and tiles are served by OpenFreeMap, using OpenMapTiles and © OpenStreetMap contributors. Required map attribution also remains visible on the map itself.

Place searches on the web use Nominatim, based on OpenStreetMap data.

Compiss community additions

People can submit missing toilets in the mobile app. New places are reviewed before publication and are labelled Community added. Ratings, photos and comments are available to signed-in mobile app users. Photos are reviewed before publication; comments appear immediately and can be reported or removed by moderators. Helpful comments and approved photos can earn their authors Toilet Karma through community votes.

Corrections and questions

Public facilities change. If a toilet is missing, closed or in the wrong place, you can submit an update in the mobile app. For attribution, data-use or accessibility questions, email hello@compiss.app.
